How to do fence installation in Sydney

Learn how to do your fence installation in Sydney the right way.

COLORBOND steel fencing

Fence up your property

Whether you live on a large acreage property or just a few metres from your neighbours, a good fence is a must-have for any homeowner.

Fences don’t just keep prying eyes off your home but they can also keep out wild animals and would be intruders. But installing a new fence can be a lot harder than it looks.

Aside from getting the right materials for the job, you should also ensure that the fence installation in Sydney is done properly; otherwise, you could compromise your fence. A poorly installed fence won’t serve you well, even if it’s made of the best quality materials.

How to perform fence installation in Sydney

Prepare for installation

First, you need to check if the ground is level, otherwise the fence won’t be stable enough. In this case, you might need to do some landscaping to make the soil perfectly levelled. Also, make sure to contact your local housing authority to see if you need any building permits to set up a fence—this can help prevent legal complications.

Set the foundation

Once you’ve got all the legal things in order, it’s time to set up a sturdy foundation for your new fence installation in Sydney. First, dig some holes for the fence posts. Ideally, these holes should be at least 600mm deep to provide enough stability for your fence. Then, prepare a concrete mixture and pour it into the holes you’ve made.

Install the fence post

Before the concrete in the holes you made starts setting, you need to start installing the fence posts. Carefully put the fence posts into the holes, making sure that the posts are perfectly straight. You could try anchoring the posts with small ropes to keep them straight. Also, make sure that all the posts are properly levelled and evenly spaced.

Attach the metal panels

After your fence posts have settled and are sturdy, you need to start installing the fence panels. If you’ve chosen the metal panels, make sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions when installing. The installation should be seamless as any gaps between the panels can affect the fence’s integrity and could cause it to fail during bad weather.

Install a top rail

After installing the panels, you’ll want to reinforce them. This can be done by installing a top rail. Place the top rail on the fence post and fix it to the posts using screws and rivets making sure that they are aligned with the panels. Also, leave a small gap between the ends of the rails to allow the metal to expand during hot weather.

Add the finishing touches

After the installation is complete, inspect the fence to ensure everything is tidy. Also, look for any damages that may have occurred during the installation. Don’t forget to check the alignment of the fence since it may have gone off during installation. Finally, clean the area around your fence to remove debris like metal shavings.
